I think that the moral of this fable is that if you don't know how to solve a situation yet, at the moment when you most need it, the idea will come to you. That is what happened to the crow in this story. When he couldn't get the water he thought and thought until he got an idea. He needed this idea to save his life. He needed it most at that moment in his life.
